'Roses' Exhibition

Galerie 3F, Montmarte, Paris

A series of nine large paintings of roses in a range of abstract shapes, these paintings explore the female experience of sexual violence and recovery. Utilising the garments and belongings given by survivors keen to tell their stories, this approach brings an intimacy and connection between the subject matter and the narrative, so often missed in the normal dialogue on this subject. Although on first glance a comment on human rights, Amber's paintings transmute this painful narrative into something beautiful, leaving the viewer with a lasting impression of the Artist's ambition to showcase the beauty and magnificence of female strength.

The Artist would like to thank all the survivors, charities, and individuals, many of whom would like to remain anonymous, who bravely worked with her to make the exhibition happen.

A Punch of Roses

A punch of roses

But

Who

Pushed who?

Oh I know –

I feel it

In my soul

In my face

In my body.

No fight though

And no pain

Just a numbness

Only I

Can reclaim

And I will

I will

Not

Be

Tolerated

I love

And can be.

So I find those thorns

Pluck them in –

A broken dream of what I thought was

Romance

But never

Found me.

I find for myself

For a while

Even if the dream never dies.

It lives and

With it

Lives

Me
